Kim came to Lexington to attend UK Law School.  She practiced law for 11 years until she had her first child, Krista.  Two years later, Zachary was born, and two years after that she and her partners birthed the Portrait Shoppe.   She now co-manage the Portrait Shoppe with her husband, Michael; and finally after 12 years, she went back to practicing law part-time.  While they are two vastly different businesses, she likes the variety!  Portrait Shoppe gives her smile lines and practicing law is creating one of those creases between her eyebrows, but she really loves them both.  While she misses the daily contact with our wonderful customers, she still enjoy watching your children grow through their portraits.

Michael has lived in Lexington most of his life.  He attended Transylvania University and University of Kentucky to play soccer.  Oh yeah, and he took a few classes while he was there.  He co-owned a computer company, Accent Systems, for 20 years which they sold in early 2007.  Now he co-manages Portrait Shoppe and asiGUARDIAN, a computer data online back-up solutions business.  He is also very involved in leadership at his church.  He has a real heart for children and enjoys greeting yours as they enter the Portrait Shoppe.  He has two of his own that are now 10 and 12.  The children truly grow up before your very eyes and we are therefore proud to be part of a business that captures every stage, whether new and tiny or gangly and goofy.  His desire is to produce memories for you that will last forever.

Shelly was born in San Diego, California but as a Navy brat she caught the “traveling bug” early on and now has a deep love for world travel. Eventually her family settled in Kentucky and graduated from EKU with a BA in Art Photography and a minor in Sociology. Shelly is very close to her family, including her older sister, with whom she shares her passion for art. Shelly’s camera has become an extension of her right arm; when she's not at the Portrait Shoppe, she is a wedding and freelance photographer in this area. Working at the Portrait Shoppe has given her the opportunity to combine her love of kids with her artistic creativity, which makes for some unique and beautiful images!

Ryan is originally from Long Island (pronounced “Lawn Gisland”), where he spent most of his time in the performing arts. He attended Gettysburg College where his acting habit earned him a BA in Theatre and, because he knew he would need to eat in the future, he also pursued his certification in Elementary Education. In keeping with his Southwesterly migration pattern Ryan moved to Kentucky in 2006 to study at Asbury Seminary where he is working on his Masters of Divinity. He also directs a weekly theatrical production called Kidstuf at his church. Though he is often mistaken for a High Schooler, Ryan is married and has four children all less than 5 years apart. He loves being a photographer and, because he never really grew up, working with kids is as natural as play!
